I am on my first overseas posting having joined the diplomatic service as a science attache. I am posted to Bangalore for 3 years to work with India's scientists. My background is geology having specialised in igneous petrology. I have been in Bangalore since April and its my first time in India. In fact, its my first time in Asia. I have never lived abroad before. I have a basic understanding of german although would like to learn some hindi, tamil and kannada whilst in India. I enjoy going out to restaurants with friends, reading, walking in the countryside, cooking and cycling.

I just started with Shell in Bangalore for a 4-year assignment. I'm here with my wife Rienke. My job involves performing gas and oil development studies for Shell hubs in the world (not India) and coaching young graduate indian reservoir engineers. This is my first expat assignment so before here I only lived in Holland. However I did some few months internship in the US and did a 3-month project in Norway before. Languages are Dutch and English ofcourse and a tiny bit of German. Hobbies involve music, wine&dine, squash and card games (poker, bridge).

I have previously travelled to Germany (World Cup 06), Spain, France but have never lived overseas before. I love football (the real football), cricket, nice food and a few drinks at the pub and I'm pretty easy going in general and can strike up a conversation with most people.
